a mazda 323 does not have a rotary engine.
not all mazdas do..
mazda is famous because they were the first company to produce a capibable rotary engine car with the rx series.

meaning the rx series are the only cars you'll find a rotary engine in. no mazda 3, 6 etc etc have NO ROTARY ENGINE.

you just said your engine is sohc, then how can it be rotary or remotely tied to it? haha. you are better off owning a piston unless you are a rotary fan like me. rotaries eat oil, did you ever noticed it did? or mabe you blocked it off, then did you premix? mazda always wasn't the only one with rotary engines, they just kinda stuck with it. if u use that argument, then that means that mazda3's, and proteges' have rotary engine too? if u think so then wat is it? an naturally aspirated 13b like in the non-turbo fc's? or mabe the 12a in the older fb's? or could it be that they have a renesis engine?! please take our word for it, or do some research on your own. your argument is like me saying that since honda has vtec, then all honda's must have it.

Well, i would like to thank all of you for being jerks. im glad you got a kick outta that and how my question made you all laugh.

i figured i would get chewed out by this, but its amazing that four of you decided to tell me what i said wrong instead of at least one person telling me.

ok, im not a mechanic or anything, im still learning about cars. i know what a dohc, sohc and a rotary engine does and what not. i know my car is a 1.6 liter and sohc engine. i thought a majority of engines made by mazda were in fact rotary engines, now i know that they make them for rx7s and 8's.

im just asking questions, so please in the future, take it easy on newbs like me and others who are learning. thats all i have to say.

and like i said before, i love my car.

I think we all need to remember one thing: If you think you have a fast car, you do. My '90 Corolla? V8? If I want it to be, then it is. I'll take a Viper. I don't see anyone with a Viper challenging me. Obviously they know, that I know, my car is a monster.

Okay, seriously though. I wouldn't get so worked up. For ZF's knowledge:

Rotary engines are typically 1.3L displacement.

12A = N/A FB (pre 86 RX-7)
13B = N/A FC (86-91 RX-7), 2 rotor
13BT = Turbo FC (86-91 FC RX-7), 2 rotor
13BTT = Twin Turbo FD (93-95 RX-7), 2 rotor
20B = 3 rotor.. very fast.. think it's originally in the Eunos Cosmo (Japan only)
Renesis = 3 rotor RX-8 engine

Rotary engines burn oil, if someone tells you it doesn't, they're a liar or simply unknowledgable. Rotary engines have compressions of around 7, and compression checks have to be done with a special tool specifically for testing rotary engine compression. Never put synthetic oil in a rotary engine - It's not meant to combust, and that'll cause problems for you. Rotary engines are compact and light, which is a big reason why RX-7's and RX-8's have such equal weight distribution.

Yeah, those should be OK. Best places to learn are the basic sources, howstuffworks.com and what not. Join a forum for Mazda 323's if you want to learn more specifically about them, that's my best advice.

renesis is 3 rotor??? where did u read that? the compression differs if it is the turbo engine or not. synthetics are okay if u buy brands like royal purple then it'll burn clean. but never use them when u are breaking in the engine. it is better to block off the the oil and premix the engine with any 2 stroke motor oil. i personally just use the castrol stuff. the fd engine is actually the 13b-rew, the lower model cosmo's with the 13b is the 13b-re. i think a few of us just kinda jumped on you cause u seem kinda too sure, to convince u we hafta win by numbers.
