if you have been watching the show you would know that it takes place out in Japan because in many episodes they have mentioned Japanese cities that they race in.

while the first two stages, and perhaps the third stage movie, were dubbed in Chinese, the ONLY initial d that ever takes place in China is the Live Action movie that came out during the beginning of this past summer. Which is filmed entirely in China with Chinese Actors, well cept for Anne Suzuki who is japanese.
