-- Game 1 Summary: Flames vs Canucks (http://kishu.ca/forums/showthread.php?threadid=370)
Game 2 Summary
FLAMES WIN 2-1!!
<--every smiley that pertains to the situation.
Game Summary: Not nearly as many penalties. Vancouver came to a quick start, with two near-miss goals, skidding into the crease only to be stopped by the Calgary defense and cleared. Both had Kipprusoff beat, soo close. However, Calgary bounced back, plugged away and scored early in the 1st. 1-0 CGY. Off a faceoff, about 50 seconds later, the puck went high into the air... Most players skated off it, but it landed near a Van player and Matthew Lombardi, Calgary's hotshot rookie, who then tapped it pass the Vancouver defensemen, took a shot, 5-hole through Cloutier and it was a 2-0 hockey game. Insane. End 1st period.
2nd period. More excellent hockey from both ends. Then, one of the most controversial goals in years. A shot from the point. As Kippy saves it, it bounces off his save (if I remember it right), and goes out to the centre of the Calgary zone. Jovanaski, another Vancouver defensemen, skates into the crease and body checks Kipprusoff, knocking him down {!!}. Naslund gathers the puck, fires on an empty net and scores. Both refrees barely saw the play, but they [b]don't go upstairs. (After several reviews, on many channels, all say it shouldn't have been a goal... there's not much arugment about that). However it counted. 2-1 hockey game. End 2nd period.
3rd period was intense. With 3-something minutes left, Calgary gets a high sticking minor (2:00 penalty). Fending off an attack, Calgary holds the pressuring Canucks and maintains their first playoff win since May 11th, 1996... Wow. Coming back to Calgary, the intensity has increased even greater O.O Andy is gonna die when he goes to watch CGY vs Van
Game notes:
-Dirty Vancouver goal [no bias, it really was]
-Good penalty calling by Frasier and Malkharkdskyov or something.
-Iginla, Kippy, strong games after being bitched at by Coach Sutter following Game 1.
-Next game goes IN CALGARY, Sunday, with an 8:00 MST.
Oh, and if an admin sees this, can you send it to the News forum so that I may manage it? thx =)
Game 3 Summary
Vancouver 2 - Calgary 1 =(
Summary:
1st period) Near misses for Calgary, couple off the post, one in which had almost everyone thinking it was a goal. No goals here, but a big factor was that Vancouver's #1 goalie, Dan Cloutier, has been hurt (knee injury while clearing the puck from the crease) and will likely not make it back. Johann Hedberg, who had great success in 2001 while on Pittsburg, replaces him.
2nd period) Calgary gets off to a good start on a Chris Simon goal, but 66 seconds later, Markus Naslund evens it up on another PowerPlay goal. 1-1 hockey game at the end of the 2nd.
3rd period) Vancouver gets a good bounce and puts home another goal, not much chance for Kiprusoff here either. Calgary pressures hard for 18 minutes, but ultimately comes up short. The big controversy was with 55 seconds left, Iginla got boarded hard by Ohlund, but there was no penalty despite being right in front of the refree. A penalty woulda given a Calgary a man advantage, which could have been a 6-on-4 if Kippy came outta the net. The league needs to crack down on these stupid calls >.> Final score: 2-1 Vancouver
Game Notes
-Calgary's powerplay was absolutely stale. They're 2/22 in the entire series, completely unacceptable.
-Vancouver's powerplay on the other hand, is almost 50%. This is killing Calgary.
-Calgary's first home playoff game in 8 years was electric; Your ears were ringing just watching it O.O
-Conroy was out for most of the 2nd, getting stiches and some dental work. Cloutier was out in the first. Chris Simon had a bit of trouble with his knee after a bad hit in the third. Tony Lyndman sustained a "upper body injury", and Calgary only had 5 defensemen in the third.
-Game 4 goes Tuesday night in Calgary. Series is led by Van at 2 games to 1.
