just got my new comp need to update codecs and such

Shit son don't use k-lite.

K-LITE FTL. Screws shit up if you have all these different codecs installed.

Download (click): ffdshow, Matroska Pack Lite, Real Alternative, Quicktime Alternative.

ffdshow handles both divx and xvid, so you're set. Matroska Pack contains codecs to view .mkv files, and also comes with directvobsub and vorbis support. The Alternative plugin's save you from downloading Realplayer and Quicktime, but you can still install the original players if you want ...

Also, I suggest getting either Media Player Classic (personal recommendation), VLC, or BSPlayer over stock WMP.
