MY 86!!!!!

yo i just found out from a guy at calgary import concern (thanx oli) that to import a trueno in mint-ish condition would be like between $8000 and $10000 cdn. which means i'll still have roughly $25000 left to trick it out with carbon fiber hood (and the light coverings too), upgrade the suspension, tires, brakes ect...

oh yeah and the engine too! im thinking about dropping in a 3G-Se inline 4 from an altezza (maybe) but im definatly changing it

and no im not putting in a fucking turbo

Now can someone tell me; why the fuck would you spend $8-10K on a 16+ years old car?

First, you KNOW the car is beat to shit since you think no one drifts with a 86 in Japan? Second, even it's "mint-ish", you STILL need to put AT LEAST $2K into restoring the car. Third, and it's RHD, have you drove around in a RHD car before? It's a fucking pain in the ass.

Shit, if I have(I am guessing) $30K to play with on a car, I would NOT buy a OMG JDM AE861!1!!1!!1

Rather spend $3-4K buying a 85/86 in Canada, $6k to fix all the rust+new paintjob.

I have so much more that I wanna express, but I think this will do

1. its 19yrs old and i want an actual trueno, none of that corola shit.

2. i know people drift in japan, im not an idiot when it comes to this shit. to be qualified to be sold at the mint level in an auction the frame needs to be intact and undamaged.

3. i know and im willing to do that

4. yes and i didnt find it that hard

5. your choise i guess

Yea NA are easyier. basicly, if u blow the turbo, u blow the engine and ur screwed. So its better to have a tuned NA then a turbo unless u know and can handle turbos real well.

There are no differences in the JDM Trueno and USDM/CDM Corolla(GTS)... Everything can be exchanged from both. Shit, I have a 86, ask Corey, he saw my POS...

And mint level is what? Auction grade what? Unless you found an auction grade 5 Trueno(which I highly doubt, since Truenos are near extinction, people rather sell it to someone in Japan than exporting it. And if you actually have access to a broker's site from Japan, they are all Levins, and only 1 or 2 Trueno will pop out, but all are below auction grade 3), if not, nothing is "MINT" about it or worth anything... In the import auto industry, we only say MINT if it is auction grade 5.5 or UP... (5.5 = driven LESS than 100KM, 6 is driven but stored in showroom, 6.5 is DELIVERED to showroom on a trailer, so less than 20KM for sure on the car.)

Whatever man, up to you, just saying... Importing a car that old is a waste of time and money, at the end, you can't even sell the car at $6K unless someone is eager like you jumping on the bandwagon.

the turbo is seperate from the engine.
you can replace the turbo just like you can install it.

if turbo is "blown" you can reinstall a new one.

Ive had a friend tell me that becasue he has a messed up engine becasue of his blown turbo, and it sits in his garage. And he brought that up when i said to him "huh, im think ing about putting a turbo in my car" when i first got my car.

if I had the money to drop on a car like that I would get something NEW with a warrenty so that I could actualy enjoy it

you could be like this:
"OMG LOOK AT MY PIMPED OUT 86"

or: "hey check my nice clean wrx"

maintain the car, drive it well. when its 5 year warrenty is up THEN start to modd the car, not take a 16+ year old car and throw 10 grand at it... cause at the end of the day... you still have a 16+ year old car
