razorsuKe's battling thoughts.
Distance
On some courses where you're right up on the guy's end and can't see the course, it can fuck you up. Also, you might notice that steering feels different. My plans for this is if it can't be handled, then make a quick ungas and leave some room. You most likely won't pass on a straight anyways, might as well make your move on the next turn.
* note on this technique, don't slow down too much or else you'll be behind a lot, just make it a quick ungas and if its not enough, do it once more.
Cornering
As always, in almost every situation, the inside of a corner is the only place to pass. Without this opportunity, there is only one last thing you can resort to. Screw up the line and take the inside early. If said player is thinking "inside, inside" exactly like what you're thinking, you have one option. Out - In - Out is used for getting the most out of the inside of a corner, thus, when he's going out and turning in, you should be in and screwing up the turn. The moment you get infront, ram back into his car as much as you can by either braking or ungassing to get back inside as much as you can. Very dangerous move.
Intances: Oil patch, go over the oil (rarely works and only for desperation) or happo, wide turn ins.
Consistant thinking and analysis
During battle, you should always take note of your position relative to your opponent's. How you're doing compared to him etc.
What goes through my mind is if I'm behind, I think of my course of attack. This is constantly changing since it depends on how my opponent drives, if he screw up and if I took a turn extremely well in comparassion.
For example my battle in 180sx vs RX8 akina snow.
My first plan of attack is always the first corner, if a pass can not be achieved there, I should at least be close enough to try the 2nd corner. Ok, now I screwed up the 2nd corner, rapily losing distance and speed in comparassion. I plan on taking care on the S turns, making sure its clean and clean RHOD, thats top priority. I guess my opponent messed up too so I'm right behind him during the S turn, thats ok, I don't plan on passing there unless he screws up really bad. I keep distance and plan my attack for the hairpins. Doing a clean RHOD but slow in comparassion, I break even on the left 3-line turn. The pins messed up, couldn't manage a pass, I plan my next move: turn before the long straight. Even though I'm really far behind, this is the only chance, it must be clean and fast. Achieving this, I am right behind my opponent planning my next pass at the 2nd last turn, the ungas turn. Unexpectively my opponent takes a very nice inside lane turn, last plan is speed and inside line, which works! And I end up with a win.
Constant thinking and analysis of the situation is cruitial in determining a passing point if one can not be achieved by luck.
